Parent and Community Engagement Unit - Local District West

Like Hillcrest, the Parent and Community Engagement Unit believes that children learn best when schools collaborate with parents as equal partners in their children’s education. Parents can partner with schools by promoting a culture of literacy and high expectations at home and at school. They can participate in school events and on committees, in addition to volunteering and serving in parent centers.

The Parent and Community Engagement Unit - LDW goals revolve around assisting schools with developing welcoming environments for parents while offering parents a variety of opportunities to partner with the school community to improve student achievement so that all students will graduate from the Los Angeles Unified School District prepared for college and future career endeavors.

Project Fatherhood

Hillcrest Drive Elementary is pleased to partner with Project Fatherhood beginning with the 2016-2017 school year. Project Fatherhood ^SM helps fathers to be better parents through Individual and family counseling, group support, preventing child abuse and neglect, and helping fathers to make healthier decisions in relationships.

Over the years the group has proved useful for other men in caregiving roles such as stepfathers, foster parents and relative caregivers such as uncles and grandfathers.

We look forward to enlisting Project Fatherhood to increase the involvement and engagement of the dads and father figures in the Hillcrest community. Watch the video below to learn more about the great resources Project Fatherhood will bring to Hillcrest.
